| Moog eyes India for its security solutions
|
| |
Although a late entrant, Moog is now looking to security and surveillance as focus areas, and the Indian market is on its radar.
Moog, a leading global motion and flow control solutions provider for markets such as satellites, human-rated space vehicles, launch vehicles, missiles, military ground vehicles and naval vessels, is heavily betting on India for its security and surveillance solutions in asset protection and threat intervention.
Although a late entrant, Moog is now looking at security and surveillance as focus areas, and the Indian market is high on its list. Some of its new acquisitions such as Moog Quickset, Pieper and Videolarm have inspired Moog to look at India in a different light.
Moog Quickset is a global leader of precision positioners with a full product line including rugged pan & tilts, tripods, controllers and integrated systems.
Moog Videolarm is a leading designer and manufacturer of high quality and scalable physical security products and systems.
Videolarm offers a full line of IP-ready camera housings, wireless and vandal-resistant camera systems, infrared illuminators and mounting poles.
Moog Pieper is an international systems provider of integrated solutions specializing in process controls, digital image processing, video analytics and network communications for the security and surveillance markets.
With its presence already in the southern city of India, Bangalore, Moog is now ready for a paradigm shift by bringing all these solutions and expertise to the country.
Moog's India story
Founded in 1951 by Bill Moog and with headquarters in East Aurora, New York, the $2.33 billion Moog's focus markets for India will be oil and gas installations, city surveillance, traffic monitoring, border security, airport security and critical infrastructure projects.
Anurag Kashyap, MD - India, Saarc & Middle East, at Moog, said: "If you look at the growth of security and surveillance industry worldwide, one cannot neglect India, moreso with the government focusing heavily on security. China and India are the two major markets where you can expect significant growth.
"If you look at some of the US and European countries, the infrastructure is already in place at a high level. You can bring in new technologies, but the basic infrastructure is already done.
“Whereas in India, there's a gap in what's needed and the current installation base. That gap is what we are seeking to explore with our already local base."
Moog security is part of the $356 million space and defense segment. In the fiscal year 2011, Security and surveillance product sales were up $21 million, helped by the 2010 Pieper acquisition.
Sales to NASA on the Space Launch System and Crew Launch Vehicle development programs were up $10 million to a total of $28 million. Space and Defense fourth quarter sales were up slightly from a year ago at $93 million.
The growth was mainly driven by NASA programs and security and surveillance products.
Moog aims to bring to India sensor system nodes, and pan and tilt systems for precision positioning and pointing of cameras and sensors.
It also has in its kitty high-accuracy closed loop axial pointing, signal processing, video and audio switching and image stabilization along with IP ready camera housings, wireless and vandal-resistant camera systems, infrared illuminators, mounting poles and lowering devices.
